Flint Slabs from Poland
Flint slabs are usually dark-grey, blue, black, or deep brown in color, often with a glassy appearance. This type of flint, called banded flint, only occurred in the Jurassic limestone in Poland (160 million years ago). The irregular banding creates extremely picturesque internal structures making very special designer cabochons.
The ancient Polish Flint mines were only recently rediscovered in the twenty century, in the area of Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski.
