Mangano Calcite Polished Spheres and Sculptures from Peru
Mangano Calcite is known for its beautiful light pink hue that is caused by manganese. Other notable features include; occasional banding, gem quality luster, and UV light reactivity. It is known by other names like; manganoan calcite, pink mangano calcite, or pink magnesium calcite. First discovered in Slovakia, Mangano Calcite has since been found around the world. Notable places include Brazil, China, Peru, Australia, Europe, and the United States. These sculptures and spheres in particular come from Peru. An interesting and fun characteristic of Mangano calcite, is that under ultra violet (UV) light, it glows a brilliant orange color! This calcite is also considered to be phosphorescent, meaning the stone will continue to glow, even after the UV light is turned off!
